Sundays 12pm - 2pm
Midday on Sunday, Dales Radio brings you 2 hours of music from the 1970s with Bob Lawrence who was there living it, soaking it up and having the time of his life. If he could go back in time, this is the decade he'd choose. He can't, of course, but this is the next best thing.
So, who IS Bob Lawrence? Well, we offered him a slap-up meal and good wine to find out. Here's what he told us:
Name: Bob Lawrence.
What's your favourite food? Probably my own chilli, although I do love a good steak and chips. [BOSS: Just as well that's what you're eating right now then 😁]
Where is your most favourite place in the world? In all honesty, the Dales are right up there. I used to live in the Netherlands and have very fond memories of both it and the Dutch people, so that would come into the reckoning.
What were you like as a child? Young [BOSS: You don't say 🤨]
Have you had any nicknames? I used to have very wild hair, which grew outwards (rather than downwards). When I joined Radio Caroline in the 70s, one of the Dutch DJs said that my hair was like a Buzby worn by the guards at Buckingham Palace. From that point on, I was known as Buzby and there are still a few people who call me that.
If you weren't a Radio Presenter, what would you be doing now? Probably working with dogs in some capacity.
What was your very first concert? (Bonus points for embarrassing ones) A triple bill of Brinsley Schwarz, Doctor Feelgood and Dave Edmunds. [BOSS: I bet THAT was a great gig! 😁]
What is the most unusual job you’ve ever had? For two days, I unloaded frozen prawns from a container ship at Tilbury Docks. I'm very lucky since I've probably only ever done about three weeks' work in my life; the rest of the time I've been in studios.
If you could interview anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Marriane Faithfull. I'd be scared rigid, but she lived a life, that one.
