Agricultural leaders in Upper Wensleydale convened in Hawes this morning to formally roll out the sustainable fell grazing network. The project brings together dozens of hill farmers to manage grazing density and restore native flora on limestone pavements.
Supported by regional environmental grants, the scheme balances traditional sheep farming with peatland conservation, reducing water runoff into valley streams while preserving historic upland farming heritage.
Participating farmholders will host public educational walks throughout August to demonstrate how modern conservation techniques integrate with traditional livestock management.
