Highways engineers have confirmed that structural repairs will be carried out this summer on the historic A65 bridge at Coniston Cold. The narrow crossing has long been a notorious bottleneck for heavy goods vehicles moving across the southern edge of the Dales. Temporary signals and lane closures will be deployed to keep the bridge safe while teams reinforce the ageing masonry, prompting warnings for motorists to map out detour routes well in advance.
