A planning application for a massive, 4-meter-high concrete slurry store in a prominent field near Malham has ignited a fierce debate. Objectors, including several tourism businesses, argue the structure is "horribly visible" from the Pennine Way and will ruin the limestone scenery. However, the National Farmers' Union (NFU) has stepped in to support the farmer, stating that without these storage facilities to prevent river pollution, the farm would face closure under new 2026 environmental regulations. Planners are currently considering if "natural stone screening" would be enough to mitigate the harm.
