Road Rage Attacker Handed 12-Year Sentence for Brutal Assault

Road Rage Attacker Handed 12-Year Sentence for Brutal Assault

22 July 2026

A Skipton motorist has received a 12-year prison sentence following an unprovoked assault that left an 82-year-old victim with lifelong injuries.

Lee Symonds, 42, of Greatwood Avenue, Skipton, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The court heard how Symonds intentionally forced an elderly driver's vehicle off the road near Carleton following a minor junction dispute.

Symonds then subjected the victim, John Knowles, to a violent assault using a car door, causing severe facial fractures and traumatic brain bleeds. Detectives commended the victim's family for their dignity throughout the trial, emphasising that the lengthy sentence sends a clear message regarding road violence.
