Two North Yorkshire Police dog handlers were patrolling a minor road near the A19 late Friday night when they spotted a figure slumped in a ditch. Upon investigation, they found a middle-aged man who had suffered a severe medical episode and was unresponsive. The officers utilised their advanced tactical first aid kits—including a defibrillator carried in their vehicle—to stabilise the man for 20 minutes before a Yorkshire Air Ambulance crew could reach the remote location. Doctors at James Cook University Hospital stated that without the officers' "immediate and clinical" intervention, the man would not have survived the night.
