New National Park Investment Package Approved to Protect Sustainable Hill Farming

New National Park Investment Package Approved to Protect Sustainable Hill Farming

17 June 2026

The National Park Authority has approved a far-reaching new action plan to inject direct investment into sustainable agricultural systems and fells path repairs

Authority members have formally ratified their comprehensive Action Plan for the upcoming season, unlocking a significant cache of funding explicitly dedicated to supporting people, places, and nature inside the park boundaries. A headline component of the approved strategy is the guaranteed extension of the highly successful Farming in Protected Landscapes programme for a further three years. The rolling cash injection will be utilised to help local land managers adopt regenerative grazing practices that protect fragile upland soils while maintaining farm profitability. The investment package also establishes dedicated budgets to repair eroded footbridges across the high valleys and expand educational outreach networks, aiming to bring over two thousand school students into the park for outdoor skills workshops this summer.
