Yorkshire Dales National Park rangers stationed around Malham Cove and Malham Tarn are erecting fresh conservation notices explaining the ecological sensitivity of limestone pavements.
Deep stone fissures, known as grykes, shelter rare native ferns, mosses, and woodland flora that depend on undisturbed stone formations to survive.
Rangers are appealing to hikers to leave surface limestone rocks untouched and remain on designated stone footpaths to prevent soil erosion.
