The Cave Rescue Organisation was paged at 5:30 PM yesterday after a 54-year-old man slipped on the steep descent from Pen-y-ghent towards Horton. The team dispatched two Land Rovers to the base of the hill. The walker had sustained a suspected fractured ankle. Team members administered pain relief and used a "vacuum splint" before a 1-mile stretcher carry to the road. The CRO is reminding hikers that the limestone paths can be "greasy" even when it hasn't rained.
