National Trust rangers at Malham Tarn observed "head-down" feeding behaviour from the adult Great White Egrets for several hours yesterday. This specific motion typically indicates that the parents are regurgitating food for newly hatched chicks. While the reed beds are too thick for visual confirmation, a specialised high-gain microphone has picked up faint "chirping" sounds near the nest site. If confirmed, these will be the first Egrets ever born in the National Park.
