Engineers from the Canal & River Trust deployed early this morning to begin timber structural reinforcement along the historic Skipton canal basin. The works focus on repairing stone wall linings and replacing worn wooden lock seals near the town centre.
Despite ongoing structural work, contractors confirmed that canal towpaths and boat navigation routes through Skipton will remain fully open with short safety slowdown zones in place.
The summer maintenance drive is designed to protect heritage masonry while ensuring safe passage for seasonal leisure barges and tour boats.
