Retained crews from Reeth Fire Station responded at 9:37 PM following reports of smoke and flames visible along Arkengarthdale Road. On arrival, firefighters found a campfire set in dry vegetation that had quickly spread into surrounding heather and peat.
Firefighters deployed backpack sprayers, beaters, and high-pressure hose reels to douse the flames and prevent the fire from climbing deeper into the dry moorland peat layer.
Fire officers reiterated urgent appeals to local youths and summer visitors, reminding everyone that open flames, campfires, and disposable barbecues remain strictly prohibited across all National Park moorland due to extreme wildfire risks.
