"Don't Spark Disaster" Campaign Deploys 20 Wildfire Warning Signs

"Don't Spark Disaster" Campaign Deploys 20 Wildfire Warning Signs

11 August 2026

Roadside alert signs deployed along major Dales transit corridors today are reminding holidaymakers that open fires and disposable barbecues are strictly banned across parched fell country

North Yorkshire Council and National Park wardens deployed 20 high-visibility alert signs along key transit corridors connecting Skipton, Grassington, Kettlewell, and Hawes as part of the Don't Spark Disaster initiative.

The campaign explicitly informs motorists and holidaymakers that open campfires, disposable barbecues, and sky lanterns are strictly prohibited across open countryside and moorland.

Emergency services warn that parched peat layers can ignite from a single stray ember, posing severe risks to grazing livestock, wildlife habitats, and rural farm property.
