£6.8m School Building Modernisation Scheme Heads to Cabinet Approval

£6.8m School Building Modernisation Scheme Heads to Cabinet Approval

12 August 2026

Maintained primary and secondary schools across Skipton, Settle, Richmond, and rural dales are set to benefit from a £6.8 million building improvement scheme heading for final council sign-off next week

North Yorkshire Council's executive committee will meet next Tuesday to formally approve the distribution of £6.8 million in Department for Education grant funding. The money will target urgent structural repairs, including roof replacements, window insulation, modern heating systems, and accessibility upgrades across maintained schools.

Education leaders noted that while the multi-million-pound investment is a major boost for rural classrooms, the council is still managing a broader £20 million repair backlog across its 175 maintained school sites.

If approved, construction teams will begin scheduling essential building works during upcoming term breaks to minimise disruption for Dales pupils.
